The Tragedy of Gendered Violence

The horrific events in Newtown made talk of tighter gun control laws, better mental health services and school security a top priority. Here, Jackson Katz address eloquently in his blog another aspect of violence in America: the social construction of masculinity. The idea that boys are raised to see violence as a way to show anger, dissatisfaction or any number of emotions, instead of using words. In class, I also examine gender from a male not just female perspective and highly recommend the books and documentaries cited at the end of this piece. The blog is reprinted below or you can access it online here.
