The horrific events in Newtown made talk of tighter gun control laws, better mental health services and school security a top priority. Here, Jackson Katz address eloquently in his blog another aspect of violence in America: the social construction of masculinity. The idea that boys are raised to see violence as a way to show anger, dissatisfaction or any number of emotions, instead of using words. In class, I also examine gender from a male not just female perspective and highly recommend the books and documentaries cited at the end of this piece.
